01 — The rooms
Twelve rooms, no two alike
Each room follows the shape of the ridge rather than a floor plan. Beds face whichever window earns it.
The Garden Rooms

Six rooms opening onto the walled herb garden. Quieter, lower, and warmer in winter — the ones regulars ask for by number.

One room under the rafters with its own stair, a wood stove, and a tub set into the floorboards. Booked a season ahead in autumn.

02 — The table
One kitchen, one seating, whatever came in that morning
There is no menu to choose from. The kitchen cooks what the growers on the lower road brought up before noon, over a wood fire that has not gone out since 2019. Dietary notes go on the reservation, not to the waiter.
Breakfast
Laid out from seven. Bread from the same oven as last night's service.
Supper
Six courses at seven. Guests eat at one long table unless they'd rather not.
The cellar
Ninety labels, most of them from within a day's drive.
Non-guests
Four seats a night, released on the first of each month.

The house keeps its own hours

05 — Seasons
The same twelve rooms, four different houses
Regulars tend to pick a season and keep it. These are the arguments for each.
Spring
The orchard goes over in ten days and the whole ridge smells of it. Quietest months of the year.
Summer
Supper moves outside to the terrace. The water at the bottom of the walk is cold enough to matter.
Autumn
The reason most people come. Book the Loft a season ahead or don't bother asking in October.
Winter
Snow closes the track perhaps twice. The stove in the Loft earns its keep and the library fills up.

07 — Before you write
Things people ask first
Can we bring children?
Over twelve, yes, and a cot fits in the Garden rooms. Supper is one long table, so it helps if they can sit through six courses.
Is there wifi?
In the rooms and the library, not on the terrace or in the dining room. That was a decision, not an oversight.
What if we have dietary restrictions?
Tell us on the reservation and the kitchen builds around it. Vegetarian and coeliac are routine; anything else, write and we'll be honest about what we can do.
Can we cancel?
Free up to fourteen days out. Inside that we'll try to fill the room and refund whatever we recover — with twelve rooms it usually works.
Are dogs allowed?
In the two Garden rooms at the end, and anywhere outdoors. There is a resident cat who was here first and holds a grudge.
08 — Rates
Rates include everything except the cellar
Breakfast, supper, the bath, and the walks are all in the room rate. Minimum two nights, three over holidays.

09 — Getting here
The last four kilometres are unpaved
Two and a half hours from the city by road, then a gravel track that any car can manage slowly. Tell us your arrival window and someone will be at the gate.
